Drug Task Force

Drug Task Force

Since 1995, the Mesquite Police Department (MPD) and the Nevada Division of Investigation (NDI) have worked together to form a Task Force capable of counteracting the drug trade and it’s influence to our city. The State of Nevada, in cooperation with the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) has provided the City of Mesquite with grant revenues to operate the Drug Task Force.

The Task Force's primary activities include surveillance, serving search warrants, seizing and halting the production of controlled substances. Several other agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Adult Probation and Parole (AP&P), and the Nevada Division of Investigation (NDI) assist the Task Force with these functions. Intelligence meetings to share knowledge on drug users and dangerous individuals are conducted with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), AP&P and local law enforcement agencies.

In addition to reactively dealing with the drug problems in our communities, the Task Force also responds proactively. Members of the Task Force present information to various civic groups and numerous youth groups. Topics covered include drug and gang awareness, the effects of drugs on the body and warning signs for determining possible drug use and gang involvement.

"Creativity, resourcefulness and energy come from teamwork."
