Police Explorers

Mesquite Police Explorers attend “Ex-Con” competition in Las Vegas

Explorers from the Mesquite Police Department recently went to Las Vegas and competed in the “Ex-Con” competition. "Ex-Con" stands for Explorer Conference, as in Law Enforcement Explorer Conference. Ex-Con was founded by three police officers employed by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

According to the Explorer Advisor, Police Detective Celia Hoggard, there were 42 explorer posts that competed in the event. Some of the areas the explorers were judged on were:

Crime scene investigation, active shooter, traffic stops, 9-1-1 disconnect, suspicious person stop, team challenge involving a rock wall, bicycle course, air soft gun shoot, and obstacle course.

Hoggard said, “Our explorers competed in many different events and I’m very proud of them.” The team secured a plaque for competing, which will be on display in the entrance foyer at the police department.

The Explorer Post in Mesquite is currently hoping to add a few members. The requirements to apply for an explorer position are: male or female, 14-21 years of age, No felony or serious misdemeanor arrest, No alcohol, drug or weapon arrest, If you are still in school, you must have a “C” (2.0 grade point average) or higher.
