911 Calls From AT&T Cell Phones Temporarily Rerouted to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Dispatch Center

Mesquite, NV – A recent AT&T upgrade from 3G to 4G LTE has caused 911 calls from AT&T and T-MOBILE cell phones within the City of Mesquite to be directed to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Dispatch Center. The Mesquite Police Department is aware of the situation and is working with AT&T to resolve the problem.
Callers who reach the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (Metro) dispatch center should state they are located in Mesquite, NV and the calls will be quickly re-routed back to Mesquite. Metro will provide the Mesquite Dispatch Center with the information required, including the latitude and longitude of the area you are calling from, in the event your call is disconnected. Calls will be immediately returned by a Mesquite Dispatcher.
Calls may also be routed to Metro for the following reasons, cell towers at maximum capacity will skip a call to different tower that routes to Metro, cell phone provider error, or the distance from the tower to the City.
Dispatch Supervisor Lori Todd stressed the importance of dialing 911 instead of the local 702-346-6911 number in case of emergency, “ 911 calls display your phone number along with the latitude and longitude information that will help locate you in case of emergency. We do not get that information when the non-emergency number is dialed.”
The Mesquite Police Department Dispatch Center handles all police, fire, and medical calls within the City of Mesquite. Dispatchers will always ask for the location of the emergency, confirm the phone number, and ask a series of pre-determined questions from the Priority Dispatch software program that will assist them in providing the caller with the appropriate resources in the shortest available time frame.
