A Message from the Chief

This week is National Telecommunications Week, and on behalf of the department I would like to thank our dispatchers for their dedicated service for the role they play in keeping the citizens of Mesquite and the officers of this department safe.

Although the dispatchers are behind the scenes, they are on scene. They take that initial call that starts the emergency response process. Our dispatchers are keenly aware that, at times, the difference between life and death is in their hands. Their job is a difficult one; they hear things ordinary people would never want to hear.

In addition to answering the 9-1-1 calls, they are fielding calls for service from the non-emergency phone lines, taking animal control calls and watching the cameras at the Police Department and the Justice Facility.  They monitor the jail cameras and remotely open the jail doors. They are our eyes and ears. They see the overall picture and work diligently to keep us all safe.  In 2012, our dispatchers answered 11,491 calls for service.

Our dispatchers exhibit compassion, understanding and professionalism during emergency situations.  We are proud of the great job that they do.
