On Sunday, May 24, a Mesquite Police Officer stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation.  The officer observed multiple items in plain view in the vehicle which are commonly used for the commission of burglaries of dwellings and vehicles.  The driver also matched the description of a suspect who recently burglarized a local laundromat.

Mesquite Detectives were called to the scene of the traffic stop and were able to secure and execute a search warrant on the vehicle.  Detectives located multiple items within the vehicle which linked the suspect to the laundromat burglary as well as three other vehicle burglaries within the Mesquite area.  Evidence was also located which linked the suspect to a residential burglary in Utah.  That investigation is still ongoing.

Ian Mamanakis, 24, of St. George UT, was arrested and charged with: Three felony counts of burglary, one felony count of tampering with a vehicle, two felony counts of possession of stolen property, three misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one gross misdemeanor count of possession of burglary tools.

Mesquite Police Lieutenant MaQuade Chesley commented; “Proactive police work is what solved these burglary cases.  I commend our patrol division and investigation division for their keen observation skills, hard work, and seamless ability to work well together.”
