Handicap Parking Violation Leads To Arrest

Mesquite, NV – On Monday evening, December 16, Mesquite Police Volunteers discovered a vehicle illegally parked in a handicap stall, at a local convenience store. A standard records check of the driver revealed he had a misdemeanor warrant out of Mesquite Municipal Court. Patrol Officers promptly arrived and arrested the driver, identified as Jose Soto, 21, of St. George, Utah.

 

Further investigation conducted by patrol officers led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia and 18.6 grams of methamphetamine found in a purse owned by one of the vehicle occupants.  The owner of the purse, identified as Megan Smalldon, 26, of Washington, Utah was arrested and charged with felony drug trafficking and possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Captain Shane Charles credits the Mesquite Police Volunteers for effectively working in conjunction with patrol officers by stating “The Mesquite Police Volunteers provide an extraordinary service to the police department and community. As demonstrated in this case, the volunteers are a critical element to our success.”
