Mesquite, NV – During the early morning hours of Thursday, March 06, 2014 Mesquite patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on a passenger vehicle on Interstate 15, due to a traffic violation.
Officers conducted a consensual search of the driver and located .7 grams of methamphetamine, 3.6 grams of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding a bundle of US Currency. The department’s drug sniffing canine was then called to the scene and a canine drug sniff of the vehicle was conducted. The K9 alerted to more bundles of US currency hidden inside a natural void of the vehicle. A total of $74,000 in US Currency was found hidden throughout the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Omar Muro, 35, of Los Angeles, California was arrested and charged for felony trafficking controlled substance, felony possession of controlled substance, felony conspiracy to violate uniform controlled substance act, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
The passenger, identified as David Hurtado, 22, of Costa Mesa, California was arrested and charged with felony conspiracy to violate uniform controlled substance act.
Muro and Hurtado were both transported to the Clark County Detention Center, located in Las Vegas.
In response to the arrest and seizure, Mesquite Police Captain Scott Taylor stated “I commend the hardworking patrol officers for their excellent police work and keen observation. There is no doubt our officers are some of the finest.”
