Mesquite Police Announce "Shop With A Cop"

The Mesquite Police Department’s annual event “Shop with a Cop” will soon be coming to town. Every December the Mesquite Police Department hosts “Shop with a Cop” for local youngsters. This December 17th children who were carefully pre-selected based upon their needs and circumstance will be picked up at their elementary school by Police Officers in full uniform and taken on their very own special Christmas gift shopping spree.

During their spree the officers and children enjoy one on one time together picking out gifts for the child and the child’s family. After the shopping carts are full, the gifts are purchased, and shopping excitement is over, they are off to Elks Lodge (#2811) to eat lunch, meet Santa, and get a special photograph with their new cop buddy.

It is hard to say who enjoys the special day more, the big tough cops or the thankful children? If you were to ask Mesquite Police Chief Troy Tanner he would tell you “Shop with a Cop is the event that all MPD officers look forward to each and every year. The thought of a child not having any gifts to open on Christmas morning is too much to handle and absolutely unacceptable. With the help of the community through their support and generous donations MPD will continue to host Shop with a Cop every year.”

MPD would like to thank all past and future supports of this special heartwarming event. Donations to “Shop with a Cop” can be dropped off at the Mesquite Police Department, located at 695 Mayan Circle. Checks should be made payable to the Mesquite Police Department.
