Mesquite Police Officer exchanges gunfire with male subject

Mesquite Police Officers made traffic stop this morning and gunfire was exchanged.  A veteran Mesquite patrol officer was shot and transported to a local hospital.  The suspect, who was injured, was transported to UMC in Las Vegas via Mercy Air.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will be handling the investigation at the request of Chief Troy Tanner. Mesquite detectives have secured the scene and are awaiting LVMPD detectives and crime scene analysts who are en route to Mesquite at this time.
