The City of Mesquite Streets & Drainage Division of Public Works is currently sweeping the public streets on the following schedule:
This schedule avoids trash days and is subject to mechanical down time or weather. Should this be the case, you may see us on the first or third week of the month, but the goal is to sweep each street twice a month. Public safety or drainage reasons may warrant sweeping trouble areas more often.
The City of Mesquite’s rapid growth has been a challenge for all of us with the addition of our new main street renovation, and new subdivisions, collector and arterial roadways, some with islands that doubles the sweepers travel time. Dumping locations are getting further away and stopping to reload with water more often all adds to our ability to sweep in front of your home on the day that we are expected.
The main goal of the street sweepers is to maintain clean gutters for drainage run-off, and to pick up debris that will clog or restrict drainage grates during storm events. It is not a normal function of the street sweeper to provide an avenue for all residents to clean their yards and leaves and blow the debris in to the street for the street sweepers to clean up.
The Street & Drainage Division is dedicated to keeping our streets clean and safe, if we don’t make it to your street on the scheduled day, please be patient, we will get there as soon as possible.
We would also like to remind everyone that basketball standards are not allowed within the Public Right-of-Ways within the City of Mesquite, which includes, but is not limited to streets, curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
If you have any question or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the Public Works Department.
