Officers will be enforcing the traffic laws in the school zones. Motorists are being cautioned to pay attention to their speed within a school zone at posted hours plus watch for busses picking up and dropping off students on their designated routes.

“Our main goal is to ensure the safety of the youngsters going to and from school,” said

MPD Public Information Officer, Jeffrey Smith. “Drivers must yield the right of way to the children within the crosswalk.”

Nevada Revised Statue permits the Mesquite Municipal Court to double the fine for violators in a school zone who are speeding.
