and opened its doors. Since 2003, the gallery has served as a gathering place, exhibition hall, classroom, art gallery and gift shop for Mesquite and the surrounding area. The Art Center, including gallery and museum, are favorite tourist attractions for the city.
Both the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery and the Virgin Valley Heritage Museum mark the gallery’s 10th anniversary with special exhibits from June 4 to 29. The Gallery will show “A Perfect 10,” art exhibition. The Heritage Museum will feature a photo history of the art center construction and development over ten years. The original model of the art center, designed by Eric Strain of Assemblage Architects of Las Vegas, will be on display. Strain’s concept garnered four top national design awards from the American Institute of Architects, Nevada’s only structure to earn that many.
Area residents are invited to a gala public reception on Thursday, June 27, 4-7 p.m., celebrating the anniversary of the original ribbon cutting of the Mesquite Fine Arts Center. A special warm welcome is extended to all who were active in the planning and building of the center. The celebration will feature art awards, entertainment, refreshments, and a ribbon re-cutting, re-dedicating the Mesquite Fine Arts Center to future growth of the arts in Mesquite.
Of great interest will be a display of 40 “Mesquite Coyotes” that have been decorated by local businesses and offices. Those coyotes will be standing at their doors, June 1-25, welcoming customers to the businesses. Everyone is invited to vote for their favorite critter by turning in a ballot at the Gallery by June 25. The Coyote “pack” will be gathered together on the Art Center plaza for the June 27 reception, and the coyote voted “Leader of the Pack” will receive a trophy and prize from Virgin Valley Artists Association, the contest sponsor.
