If you are reading this then we have survived the latest apocryphal prophesy. 2012 is now past.  The scourge of the past is that we cannot change it.  The blessing is that we can build on our experiences and as Walt Disney was famous for saying, “keep moving forward.”  Moving forward requires fresh plans and a willingness to shift our perspective to find the best path for the New Year.

Mesquite is learning from the past.  Business models are shifting to capitalize on event driven tourism.  Mesquite has retained many of the events that have put Mesquite on the map and additional new events have been added that will enhance our community.  As a local government, we are focusing on improving being “business friendly”.  The City is working to make it easier for businesses to grow or locate in Mesquite.  We are reviewing each department to find more efficient and affordable ways of providing city.  One major step in 2012 is the City Council turning economic development over to private business.

For every beginning there is the inevitable end.  Before us is a New Year, a fresh start to for a new path to success.  Closing the 2012 chapter, let’s move forward from our past, not just by learning from it; but by applying the lessons we have learned.  Looking forward to a great 2013!

                                                        Regards, Mayor Mark Wier
