Where Athletes Compete!

 

MESQUITE, NV (Jan. 8, 2013)—Rugby and girls fastpitch softball tournaments this weekend will kick off a busy 2013 athletic season in Mesquite. This year Mesquite will host more rugby (collegiate club and adult teams), softball (additional Independent Softball Association and United Softball Association tournaments and Senior Softball USA Spring World Championships) and soccer (Olympic Development Program soccer for boys and girls teams).

 

The Red Rock Rugby Invitational is Friday and Saturday and will feature college rugby teams on two fields at the Mesquite Sports & Event Complex. Friday’s matchups start at 2 p.m., featuring Snow College vs. Southern Utah, and Dixie College vs. Utah Valley University, and at 4 p.m., BYU (2nds) vs. Utah (2nds) and Idaho State vs. Weber State. Saturdays games are at 10 a.m., with Utah vs. Dixie, and Snow vs. Utah Valley.  The Noon matchups are BYU vs. Idaho State, and Utah vs. Southern Utah.  At 2 p.m., BYU (2nds) will face Weber State, and at 4 p.m. the North All-Stars will face the South All-Stars.

 

The USA Winter Softball Championships will feature under 12 girls fastpitch teams with games all day on Friday through Sunday at the Pioneer Park, Hunter Sports Park and Old Mill Park fields.

 

Next week is Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday weekend with the Utah Youth Soccer Association’s President’s Cup matches and the Rocky Mountain School of Baseball using every available athletic facility in the City. It will also be the weekend of the Mesquite Motor Mania car show and the Smokin’ Big Chili Challenge sponsored by the Mesquite Resort Association.
