The Mesquite City Clerk is currently accepting applications to fill a vacant seat on the Mesquite City Council. Applications are due to the City Clerk by Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. Based on the submitted applications, the Mayor and Council will appoint an individual to serve a 30-month term during the Tuesday, May 27, 2014 City Council meeting.

The vacancy was created when Council member Al Litman was nominated and installed as Mayor at the May 13, 2014 City Council meeting. (Mayor Mark Wier resigned effective May 12, 2014.)

According the Mesquite City Clerk Cherry Lawson, there are a number of qualifications that must be met in order to be considered. Some of the basic qualifications are that an individual first must be a resident of the City of Mesquite and have been for a period of one year preceding the appointment; second, an individual must be a qualified elector, i.e., at least eighteen (18) years of age and a citizen of the United States; and third, an individual must not be a debtor to the City. Lawson went on to say, “The Clerk’s Office is happy to sit down with interested individuals and help them verify their eligibility and answer any specific questions that they may have.”

Applications are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 10 E. Mesquite Blvd., Mesquite, NV or can be downloaded below.
