New Mesquite Library

March 29, 2018

The new library is almost finished. Did you know that you can watch the workers put the finishing touches on the project? LVCCLD has set up a construction webcam for people to watch the project as it progresses.

Using either Firefox or Chrome, go to website www.lvccld.org. Click on the link for the new Mesquite Library located on the main page.

On May 24, 2017, the Las Vegas Clark County Library District broke ground for the new Mesquite Library. Located on 121 W. First North, the new library will open at the end of May 2018.

Although the project is still unfolding, this hasn't stopped the property from any winning awards. Under the "Unbuilt" category, a Citation Award was presented to Simpson Coutler Studios for the new Mesquite Library design. This award was given by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Nevada Excellence In Design.

This is what the jurors had to say about the design of the new Mesquite library:

"A thoughtful resuse of a neighborhood resource. An interactive community process clearly informed the design. The planning and programming reflect the community need for a 21st century library, a place for gathering, learning and connecting with resources. The entry plaza is welcoming and engaging, with a very open and elegant entry elevation. This project does a lot with a little."

As part of the design process, the architects created virtual reality tour of the new facility.  The tour is viewed both on mobile devices and desktop computers.
