Heat Wave - Cooling Stations Available!

June 25, 2024

The Mesquite Recreation Center is now a "cooling station". We have bottled water in coolers at the front entrance of the facility. If you need to get out of the heat for a few minutes they are welcome to come in and get a drink of cool water.

The excessive heat index is generally 110 degrees.
Mesquite Recreation Center hours of operation:

  • Monday - Thursday 5:00am - 8:30pm
  • Friday - Saturday 5:00am - 6:00pm

Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

Hydration Stations:
If you have a water flask you can come fill your bottle with several Refrigeration Hydration Stations throughout the city including 3 inside the Mesquite Recreation Center. The map of where those are located is attached below. Come fill up those water bottles!

Hydration Tips:
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

We want the community to be safe during these extreme heat waves.
