City of Mesquite is honored to receive the "Purple Heart City" award.
Councilmember & Mesquite Veterans President Bill Ennis presented Mayor Jesse Whipple and Past Mayor Allan Litman with the Purple Heart Award for the City. It has taken several years in the process, and it was finally received.
A city can receive the "Purple Heart City" award, a designation given to municipalities that show honor and support for veterans who have been wounded or killed in combat. To become a Purple Heart City, a local government, such as a mayor and city council, must issue an official proclamation and present it to a local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
